Ice Free is the Way to Be

Kingston Waterfront
Early last month I put a fork in Old Man Winter, proclaiming the imminent arrival of Spring: newborn woodland critters, and massive amounts of pollen. Four weeks and half a dozen snow storms later, my prediction is finally coming true. Sand covered sidewalks, and soggy patches of grass have been spotted all over the city, however one recent event officially put the final nail in Winter’s coffin. March Comment Contest Winner

As I’ve previously mentioned, the main objective of Kingstonist is to provide exciting content and unique perspectives, which stimulates a dialog amongst community members who share an interest is the Limestone City. In that respect, our March Comment Contest was launched as a means to encourage you, our audience, to provide feedback regarding the various issues we’ve addressed, as well as any we may have overlooked. After receiving a respectable 45 entries for our inaugural contest, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Matt Pedlar was randomly selected as the winner of a $20 gift certificate from Minotaur Gifts and Games. On behalf of the Kingstonist team, I would like to sincerely thank all those who commented, and/or told friends about our blossoming site. Please keep those comments coming, and stay on the lookout for details regarding our April Comment Contest, which will be announced in the next few days.

The date is yet to be announced but rumour has it the Quebecois songstress will be bringing her Second Chances tour to Kingston for one night only this summer. Read more

The Swedish Are Coming!

Ikea is Coming
With company representatives, city officials and community leaders on-hand today, Ikea, the world’s leading cheap furnishings retailer, officially broke ground for its new Kingston store, which is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2008. The 2 million square foot Kingston Ikea will include 2,500 parking spaces and will be built adjacent to the new King’s Crossing development on Division Street. To ensure Kingston’s transportation grid is prepared to accommodate the projected increase in traffic, Kingston’s newest Scandinavian furniture outlet will have dedicated on and off ramps connected directly to Highway 401.
