Stuff’d Urban Eats

It all started back in the 18th century when English Aristocrat, John Montagu, crafted a meal by placing bits of cold meat between some crusty slices of bread. This culinary creation was perfect for the 4th Earl of Sandwich, as it allowed him to play cribbage while eating, without getting his cards greasy from handling meat with his bare hands. The popularity of the sandwich began to spread amongst Europe’s upper class, and during the industrial revolution grey collar workers adopted it as an affordable, and portable meal delivery system.
Nowadays sandwiches come in all shapes and sizes. From triple deckers to grilled paninis, and from toasted submarines to tortilla wraps, the possibilities and toppings are seemingly endless. In Kingston, we have the standard sandwich chains including Subway and Quiznos, and a dozen more if you consider burgers as first cousins to the sandwich family. All things considered, there really is only one place to get a gourmet sandwich in this city, and that’s at Stuff’d Urban Eats on Bagot. Although one of the above mentioned chains coined the term “sandwich artist”, Stuff’d is the only place that really does justice to the idea, as its meals are true masterpieces.
As soon as you walk into Stuff’d, you can sense that it’s a different sort of sandwich shop. The unique artwork hanging on the walls and contemporary decor is much more pleasing than the corporate posters, and lists of menus, combos and sales you’ll find at franchise establishments. To place your order, you simply fill out a small paper form that lists: 6 breads and wraps, 6 cheeses, 23 sauces, and 27 fresh vegetables and toppings. All this to accompany the fine list of decadent meat toppings, which include prosciutto, oven-roasted turkey and smoked meat. Whether you want it toasted or not, your sandwich is carefully prepared to your exact specifications, at a price that’s very easy to digest.
My praise of Stuff’d doesn’t end there, as the care and consideration they show towards the environment is also noteworthy. They ask all diners to separate their waste into various bins for easy recycling and disposal, and also offer some biodegradable take-out containers. Although the latter is more expensive than offering traditional plastic bags and the like, Stuff’d rises above the competition and shows them how it should be done.
If Philadelphia is known for their cheesesteak, and Halifax is known for their belly busting donairs, it might not be long before Stuff’d puts Kingston on the sandwich map. Be sure to give them a chance next time you feel the urge to build your perfect sandwich.

I love love love Stuff’d. After disconvering them a few months ago they now feed me and my boyfriend at least once a week.
I Immediately loved them once I found our I could get Eggplant and Portabello mushrooms. But above and beyond that you get a lot of food for your dollar, their ingredients are always fresh, and there are so many options you can always switch it up so as never to get sick of it, like one might at the other sandwhich chains.
I really hope this is a place that catches on, I would be so sad if it were to succomb to the same fate as Zing did years ago.
